VIERA Connect IPTV

It also features a market site, where the consumer can select specific apps or accessories to help personalize the Internet experience. Popular apps on VIERA Connect include Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Facebook, Twitter, Wall Street Journal, and huluplus, all optimized for the best possible user experience. VIERA Link

The UT50 features VIERA Link, a technology that allows a consumer to operate all VIERA Link compatible AV components using only the TV’S remote control. In addition to operating a VIERA HDTV, video source, and home theater receiver can be connected to a VIERA HDTV and controlled via VIERA Link remote. Users can then watch their child, pet and/or property by installing the camera and networking to the VIERA HDTV via Ethernet cable.

2D-3D Conversion

Unique Panasonic technology converts 2D images into high-quality 3D images in real-time.The technology generates a detailed depth effect for each type of image, so the 3D effect is natural and realistic. Enjoy Blu-ray movies, DVD movies and even ordinary TV broadcasts in 3D. The Super Resolution function allows images that were converted from 2D to 3D to be displayed in sharp, clear 3D images.

A Great TV Experience: A Suite of Technologies

DLNA/Built-in Wi-Fi
Connect this DLNA-compatible VIERA HDTV and DLNA-compatible AV equipment to your home network, and you can watch movies, listen to music, and view photos from any room in the house. The UT50 series is Wi-Fi ready and an optional wireless LAN adaptor is required.

Fast-Switching Phosphor
The use of fast switching phosphors has significantly reduced afterglow duration and reproduced clear 3D and 2D images. Fast switching phosphors are used in all full HD models.

3D 24p Cinema Smoother

VIERA gives you naturally flowing 24p images with the look and tonal characteristics of film, and familiar TV-like quality. This mode optimizes the number of frames of 24p images recorded from film sources onto media such as Blu-ray Disc. Panasonic's advanced source analysis and frame generation deliver smooth, natural, and lifelike images.

600 Hz Sub-field Drive and 2500 Focused Field Drive
The UT50 features 600Hz technology which allows for superb full-HD motion and still images. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into dots. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects. The UT50 also employs Neo Plasma Black 2500 FDD (Focused Field Drive) to provide a crisp image even when the content shows very fast motion.

Skype Communication

An optional Skype Communication camera (TY-CC20W) allows the consumer to communicate with friends and family via a large TV, rather than on a small computer or smart phone screen.  Record an original message and set it as your answering voice message. Callers can record messages onto the SD Memory Card*, while you are away. *Minimum 512MB required

Environmentally Friendly

Panasonic’s commitment to sustainability and producing products that are ecologically sound is evidenced in the 100,000 hour life span of the Plasma Display panel and the lack of lead or mercury in the panels. Thanks to a newly designed phosphor process and rear panel process, Panasonic's plasma panels last for up to 100,000 hours before the brightness decreases by half. That's more than 30 years of viewing 8 hours a day. Plus with Eco Mode, Panasonic TV's turn off and adjust brightness depending on the VIERA's operating status. Settings can be configured by selecting Eco mode from VIERA Tools. The Power Save setting also adjusts screen brightness to reduce power consumption.

Wow! After lots of research, I am glad I went with the Viera 50-inch plasma. I've never owned a plasma - you can definitely tell this is 600hz - the images move so crisp! The colors are so rich! Panasonic definitely knows how to make TVs.

The Viera Internet feature was very important for us. We decided to cut the cord (only using hulu, amazon prime, and our own media for now). I love that this is a built-in feature of the tv, so I do not have to run wires for Roku or Apple TV. We have this TV mounted (no cords, no cable boxes, only ethernet running threw the wall) - look greats, works great.

It is amazing to me that you can get a TV like this under 1000. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best 3D plasma on the market for under 1k, March 31, 2012
This review is from: Panasonic VIERA TC-P50UT50 50-Inch 1080p Full HD 3D Plasma TV (Electronics)
I just picked up this 2012 Viera TC-P50UT50 and I must say I'm quite impressed. I had a 4 year old Samsung 50" HT-P5064 and it's like night & day. This Panasonic is absolutely amazing for under $1000! I was really itching on going for the ST50 series but considering that I can control the lighting in my setup, I really didn't see spending the extra $300 was worth it to me. I've calibrated this set as best as I could and I'm breaking it in slowing but will eventually purchase the Spears & Munsil Blu-Ray calibration disc to get the colors & contrast as best as possible. The picture quality is second to none. Deep, inky black levels, jaw dropping colors & fantastic contrast ratios with pretty intuitive picture control settings, Panasonic really knows how to make plasma's. As much as I love the looks of those new LED TV's on the market, I just can't see myself purchasing one. The natural fluid motion picture feel of Panasonic plasma just can't be beat! 5.0 out of 5 stars It lives up to the hype, March 30, 2012

Just got my 42" UT50 after researching TVs for a long while. This TV lives up to all the good things I've heard about it. My advice is to turn off 24p playback on your bluray player to avoid a headache inducing flicker and the home camcorder soap opera look that a lot of TVs have these days. Once this issue was fixed, the picture is great, and the movement looks right. For the price you can't get a better TV. Head over to avsforums to get the right color settings to make things even better.
